Pray for and Help Oklahoma
The tornadoes in Oklahoma have been absolutely horrible and it’s hard to even fathom the damage and devastation that has taken place there. As some of you know, my wife is from Edmond, just outside of Oklahoma City, and her parents still live there (I took the picture above while we were there last Christmas). Thankfully, the tornadoes didn’t cause any harm to their area. But, the...

Reunited ... And It Feels So Good
Last Friday, at 5:45 am while catching a flight up to San Francisco for the TechCrunch/August Capital shindig, I clumsily left my MacBook Air in the TSA security bin. I didn’t realize this until about two hours later when I went to get my computer to work on the train.  Completely panicked, I called and left numerous messages with TSA, had my wife go to the airport, and pretty much bummed...

Yahoo! Search Direct - Good Start, but I'll stick...
Having worked at Yahoo! in Product for almost four years, I not only have a soft spot for the company, but am always interested in any of their new launches. So, of course, my interest was piqued yesterday by the launch of Yahoo! Search Direct. In Yahoo!’s words, “Yahoo! Search Direct is the next step in offering answers to user’s search queries. Search Direct provides users...

My Thoughts on AngelGate
There’s been a ton of conversation around AngelGate (why does every controversy need the word “gate” in it?) and the secret dinner at Bin 38 (who is the real winner) during the past week, and since everyone has an opinion, I thought I would share my two cents. While some “Super Angels” and VCs bicker with each other, bloggers speculate about collusion, and people...

Five Reasons I'm Tired of Twitter
I haven’t tweeted in 18 days as of writing this post. 18 days! That is by far the longest I have gone without tweeting since my first tweet in July 2008. I guess fatigue was bound to set in after 2 years and nearly 3,000 tweets. My Twitter hiatus started back on August 20th. At the time I was just really busy and had no time to check or update Twitter. But, a couple of days later, Leo...

Are Mashable and TechCrunch the Same Blog?
I was just scrolling through my Twitter stream and saw the following tweets, within minutes of each other. Now, I know each blog has hard-working writers and I respect each team. But, numerous times a day, it’s basically the same story coming up twice in my stream. At this point, even the headlines are pretty much the same. What do you think? If you could only read Mashable or...

Redeeming a Foursquare Offer... Not So Easy
I finally unlocked my first Foursquare offer. Yes, I have been using Foursquare for quite awhile and am the mayor of a few places, but none of those mayorships offer anything and I don’t feel like going to Starbucks constantly to get $1.00 off a Frappucino. However, last night my parents were in town and after dinner, we stopped at the Glow Bar in the Marriott in Marina Del Rey, where...

Digg Redesign [Screenshots]
So, I finally had a chance to check out the long-awaited Digg redesign and thought I would post some screenshots, as it’s quite a change from the existing site. When I first logged-in to the new site, I was prompted to ‘Find Profiles to Follow’ with a suggested list (which includes brands and companies), broken down by category. This looks and functions almost exactly like the...

The Problem With Networking
I’m not the biggest fan of networking. Yes, I understand it’s valuable and “it’s not what you know, but who you know” (I’ll get to that in another post). It’s just that being in a room in which I don’t know 90% of the people, and of those people, 75% are walking around with their business cards out and constantly glancing from nametag to nametag...

Five Business Lessons from the Super Bowl
As I was watching the Super Bowl, I couldn’t help but think about the way success in football and professional sports often parallels success in the business world. As such, here are five business lessons from the Super Bowl. Don’t give up if you don’t have early success - The Saints found themselves in a quick 10-0 hole after the first quarter, which against Peyton...

Twiistup 007: The Wrap-Up
I once again attended Twiistup this year, and it was a great event featuring a bunch of the best minds in tech. There was a ton of excellent info shared and presented, geared towards entrepreneurs and starts-ups, and I wanted to share some of the major points I noted. The Evolution and ROI of Content Up first at Twiistup was a conversation between Richard Rosenblatt, CEO of Demand Media, and...

It's the Little Things that Matter
A few weeks ago, I was fortunate enough to hear a talk from Dave McClure about product design where, among other things, he discussed how slight changes on a page — making a button bigger, changing the placement of a link — could make a huge difference in conversion rates. This got me thinking how often in product design and development, I can be focused on huge goals, such as...
